This is a rather appealing shot which I think has quite a period look to it. The wagon had had a lot of use down through the years, and I left my own mark on it. I don't remember the color, though it might have been pinkish, faded down from the original red. The wheels made a stronger impression; I associated them, because of their shape, with a set of sandwich toasting irons which were designed to be put in the fire of a fireplace or a wood stove: the cheese and ham sandwiches came out toasted the exact shape of these wheels. I suppose the wagon might have been new sometime in the 1930s. I expect it would fetch quite a price in an antique store these days, had it survived. (Come to think of it, so might the sandwich irons.) For several years we lived in this farmhouse belonging to one of my mother's relatives, moving into town in 1953. Sadly, the house, the barn, and all the outbuildings are long gone.
